Paint a Rock

Here's another neat idea.  Gather up some neat looking rocks - smooth or flat, it doesn't matter.  Open up some old watercolor paints, or get an inexpensive set of colors from the dollar store.  And let the children paint their rocks.

Or... they can do like this picture on the right and take several small rocks or pebbles and color them one color, then arrange them in a display.

Recommended Site - StarFall

Here's another fun and educational site your child can access online when he's bored.  This one emphasizes reading, but it's perfect for Kinder through 2nd.

Take Advantage of Your Public Library

Take advantage of everything your local public library has to offer.  Acquaint your child with the children's section so that on future visits they can pick out their own books to take home while you peruse what interests you.

Don't forget to also see what kind of programs the library offers, especially in the summer.  And remember, it's all free!

Let Them Play Dress-Up, and Help Out a Cause!

Little girls and boys love to play dress-up.  Rather than let them loose in your closet, take them to the local Goodwill store and let them choose one outfit each, including hats, shoes, belts, purse, etc.  Not only will they get a kick out of trying on the clothes that they can take home to keep, you'll also be helping out a very worthwhile organization.

Washable Artwork

You can get a bucket of sidewalk chalk very cheaply at the local dollar store.  Open your sidewalks and driveway to your child's imagination!  And don't worry - it comes right off with a spritz from the garden hose.

Soaring Heat = Homemade Popsicles!

You don't need any special formula or equipment.  I take regular Koolaid and pour it into Dixie paper cups (the 3 oz. size).  Add popsicle sticks.  Put the cups in the freezer, and two hours later - voila!  Also works great with juices.

The 2010-2011 School Year is Over

Yesterday was the official last day of school.  I spent all day today packing up my room.

The school year may be over, but this blog isn't.  I'll be spending the summer posting ideas for children to explore, use, investigate, and create, until the 2011-2012 school year begins.

In the meantime, have fun.  Stay safe.  Keep cool.  And above all, be loved!

It's Graduation Day!

We're standing here, waiting for our turn to leave the room and head for the cafeteria that's already standing-room-only.  And although they may not look too enthused right now, but just wait until tomorrow when it finally sinks in.
