Mystery Word - What's the Last Word? (And Freebie!)

I found an extra bunch of letter tiles in the back of my closet during my spring cleaning, so I created this little language arts game called Mystery Word. The rules are simple. They build each word next to the word, and with the letters that are left, try to make a real word out of it.  I've included the first two word lists here as a freebie to get you started!

(Edited to add, the link should work now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!)

  2. This is such a fun idea for what some kids might think is "boring". I think I would even use it with the older kids for vocabulary review.
I also could not get into the link. Are you able to email it?

  7. I love this idea! I think the problem is that the document is set to private still. If you make it public we could have access to it then. Hope that helps...I'd love to see it too!!! :)

  10. I really like this. I think I may adapt it to see if the students can guess my mystery word from picture that I hold up.
I am a writing specials teacher k-4. I know it's an odd position title, but it has been a lot of fun and very enlightening. Come check it out!

    1. Hi! Unfortunately, it's not a self-edit document. But a quick and easy way to use your own words is to either white-out my words (or place a blank post-it note over the words), Xerox a fresh page, and use that page as your master sheet. Then all you need to do is use the master sheet to create new word lists. You could also put new words on those post-it notes before you Xerox the page. Hope this helps!

    1. Thank you, Donna! To show the difference between classes, I used this last year, and to them the mystery word for the first set was "dig". LOL!
