Because of our schedule, we often had Snack Break in the afternoon. Many of my students didn't bring anything for snacks, and I couldn't help but notice how they'd eyed what the others were eating. So I went down to the dollar store, bought peanut butter, jam, and bread, and kept it in the classroom for those who were without. (Children with peanut allergies got a jam sandwich, while the others got a peanut butter sandwich.) It got to the point where some students would trade their original snack for the PB sandwich!
