Uppercase Match

A great variation to this would be to make a game of it. BINGO would make a great class activity, but this would be better suited for a small group of 4-6 players in small group centers.

Have the cards either in a pile in the center of the table, or inside a box where they'd have to be drawn out. First person to cover all their squares correctly wins! Of course, the other kids can check that person's card to make sure the squares were covered correctly.

Read to Me Sight Words Find

These are easy to make. Create a plain template that you can use over and over for each set of words you're studying. Have students use a different color crayon for each word. Write the number of how many found in the squares.

Describe and Explain

This is a great way to help students expand their vocabulary. Have them give you a sentence to describe or explain what they see. Write their sentences on the board and have them read the descriptions together.

What Dinosaurs Lived Where You Live?

California paleontologist Ian Webster has created a new interactive map that lets you see which dinosaurs lived in your hometown millions of years ago.

The map — available here — lets you input your hometown (or any city you want) to see where it was in the world millions of years ago. Moreover, the map details which dinosaurs and species lived in that area at that time.

Beat the Clock!

Set the timer for one minute and they have to see if they can say all the letter names and/or letter sounds before beating the clock.

If the timer goes off before they finish all of them, they count how many they had and the next time they play, they have to beat that number.

Sight Word Find

These are easy to make, and the students can use highlighters to find the words scattered
on the sheet.
